With National Work Life Week coming up here are some quick tips for how to improve your work-life balance.
Set clear boundaries between work and personal time. This can be especially difficult if we’re wokring from home.
Don’t just turn off your laptop and work mobile, put them away and out of sight.
Try implementing a virtual commute at the end of your day. Take 30 minutes to yourself to read, listen to a pod cast or try some mindfulness. Anything that helps you move from work mode to me time mode.
Prioritise tasks and delegate when possible.
The Eisenhower Matrix is an excellent tool to help you do this and it’s quick and easy to apply.
A helpful question to ask yourself is “Does this need to be done…now…by me?”
Schedule regular breaks to recharge during work hours.
You don’t need long to recharge, just 5 to 10 minutes will be a great help. Try to get away from your desk. Outside if you can. At the very least stand up and move a bit.
Block the time out in your calendar as if it's a meeting - you'll be more likely to stick to it and less likely to be interrupted!
Learn to say no to unnecessary commitments.
